Bunkhouse Cottages Camping

Cottages

Located on a working hill farm within the Brecon Beacons National Park some three miles North of the picturesque market town of Abergavenny, Hen Ty (Old House) and Dan Y Berllan ( Bottom of the Orchard) are two recently renovated stone built character cottages adjoining the owners' 16th century farmhouse.

Each cottage sleeps 4, both with a double and twin bedded room.

Hen Ty has an open plan kitchen and sitting room with a fully equipped kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge etc. The sitting room has a wood burning stove, television and video. Hen Ty the original 2-up, 2-down farm house has oak beams dating back to 1580 and retains much of its charm and character

From Hen Ty you can look towards a large deciduous wood or over the recently stocked coarse fishing lake which is beginning to boast some nice specimens of carp and other coarse fish. Guests are welcome to try their luck at fishing, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity whilst still being close enough to be within earshot of the cottages

Living... & Breathing

There is a separate bathroom with a bath, shower, hand basin and toilet.

Centrally heated by means of electric storage heaters, all fuel, power, bed linen, and towels are provided at no extra cost. There is also a shared laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and payphone. A cot and highchair can be supplied on request.

Dan Y Berllan ( Bottom of the Orchard)

This is the slightly larger of the two cottages with a separate kitchen and sitting room area although it is still open plan and has similar features to Hen Ty, Dan Y Berllan has the advantage of a stone porch, an area for all those coats and wellies. A new wood burning stove was fitted last year and Dan Y Berllan has been totally redecorated for the 2001 season.

We have tried to use natural materials where ever possible so wood has been used extensively throughout both of the cottages. From the sitting room in Dan Y Berllan there is a stunning view of the Skirrid Mountain which overlooks the farm to the East, over which the sun will shine every morning (well almost!)

Dan Y Berllan has one twin and one double bedroom, bathroom with power-shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker, fridge and microwave. There is a shared laundry room with a dryer that will cope with anything the weather can throw at you, together with a payphone which will accept incoming calls. All electricity and linen is included in the price.

The local Inn is only five minutes walk away offering a friendly atmosphere as well as a good selection of traditional ales and both restaurant and bar meals.

Being close to the Black Mountains, the cottage is in an ideal location for exploring the beautiful Wye Valley, Welsh Border Country, Brecon Beacons and also for pursuing a wide variety of outdoor pursuits such as walking, mountain biking, canoeing, pony trekking, etc.

From the farm itself there are magnificent views of the Skirrid Mountain and it is also possible to walk directly onto the Sugar Loaf Mountain. The fishing lake, constructed several years ago is now becoming a haven for wild life as well as boasting some good size carp specimens.

The farm has recently become involved in an environmental scheme and guests are welcome to explore the fields and woodlands on the farm as well as using the shared garden. We can offer our own farm reared meat to our guests and even arrange a freezer pack for you to go home with.
